4th Almaty Process Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) on “Human Mobility in Central Asia: impact of return migration, migrant vulnerabilities and migrants’ rights, irregular migration and trafficking in persons and refugee protection” followed by a regional event on “Migrants’ Vulnerabilities in Central Asia: A Human Rights Approach. Regional Cooperation in Central Asia and the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda”
On September 25-26, the 4th Almaty Process Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) on “Human Mobility in Central Asia: impact of return migration, migrant vulnerabilities and migrants’ rights, irregular migration and trafficking in persons and refugee protection” will be organized by the Chair of the Almaty Process, the Kyrgyz Republic in coordination with the International Organization for Migration (IOM)/The UN Migration Agency and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The purpose of the meeting is to strengthen the capacity of participating states in the sphere of addressing the complex challenges related to migration movements in Central Asia, and the broader region, through sharing good practices, analyzing emerging trends, discuss on evidence based field assessments identifying gaps and providing recommendations. The meeting will also explore human mobility, rights for vulnerable migrants and refugees and regional cooperation, that is, to discuss the opportunities, challenges and international good practices that can ensure fulfillment of migrants and refugees rights.
On 26 September, the International Organization for Migration (IOM)/UN Migration Agency in partnership with the American University of Central Asia (Tian Shan Policy Center) present the IOM Central Asia PhotoStory exhibition. The aim of the PhotoStory project is to raise awareness on migrants’ rights, enhancing tolerance, eliminating xenophobia and racism towards migrants’ and migrant communities.
On September 27, the International Organization for Migration (IOM)/The UN Migration Agency will organize the regional event on “Migrants’ Vulnerabilities in Central Asia: A Human Rights Approach: Regional Cooperation in Central Asia and the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda”.The event will take place at the American University of Central Asia, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The event aims to offer a regional platform to discuss and analyse migrants’ vulnerabilities and guide appropriate policy, programmatic, and operational responses to addressing them and enhance resilience through protection and assistance services. It also aims at identifying challenges and advancing recommendations for the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
